Ibadan Descendants UnionHouston Chapter
What we do

Ibadan, looked after from both ends.

Four areas of work. Some of it lands in Ibadan, some of it lands in a member's kitchen in Houston. Both count.

01

Healthcare

The Union supports rural and community healthcare initiatives in Ibadan, on the principle the chapter has held since its founding: those who have been fortunate carry an obligation to those who have not.

Closer to home, the same principle covers members and their families in Houston through illness and bereavement, which is the part of the work that never appears in a programme description.

Outcomes to be added Clinics supported, drives run, years active. Real figures only, supplied by the Council.

02

Relief

When the COVID-19 years came, the chapter organised relief for families in Ibadan while looking after its own membership in Houston at the same time. That was not a new departure; it was the standing arrangement meeting an unusually hard year.

Outcomes to be added Which drives, which years, how many households reached.

03

Culture

A chapter in the diaspora has one job its parent body does not: keeping Ibadan legible to people who were not raised inside it. The Union does that through its gatherings, its observances, and the plain fact of monthly meetings where the titles are used correctly and the language is spoken.

It is also why this site sets Iyalode and Oloye in full, rather than flattening them into a list of committee roles.

Outcomes to be added Annual gatherings, cultural days, observances the chapter keeps.

04

Education

The chapter backs Ibadan descendants toward higher academic standards, at home and in the diaspora. Education is the one form of support that does not need to be repeated every year for the same person.

Outcomes to be added Scholarships or bursaries awarded, and to whom, with the Council's approval.

A note on numbers

This page carries no membership counts, totals raised, or people-reached figures, because none have been supplied and none will be invented. Every place a real figure belongs is marked above. They are worth the trouble of gathering: a specific number does more for a prospective member than a page of adjectives.
